Sasaram: In a surprising development during the Bihar Assembly election nomination process, RJD candidate Satyendra Shah was arrested immediately after filing his nomination papers for the Sasaram constituency. Police sources said Shah was taken into custody by Jharkhand authorities based on a non-bailable warrant issued in connection with a case registered nearly 21 years ago. The authorities confirmed that he would be produced in court and subsequently sent to jail.
The case against Shah reportedly dates back to 2004 at the Garhwa Police Station in Jharkhand. On Monday, October 20, 2025, after submitting his nomination, Shah was apprehended by Jharkhand police who were already stationed at the site. The arrest immediately drew attention and sparked reactions from political circles.
RJD and Mahakootami (India Alliance) leaders condemned the arrest, calling it a politically motivated conspiracy by opponents to derail their candidate’s prospects. Shah himself described the arrest as deliberate, stating, “Although there was a court warrant, I was not arrested before the elections. But once RJD nominated me, my opponents conspired to have me taken into custody. This time, the people are contesting on my behalf, and I seek the blessings of Sasaram voters.”

Shah’s arrest triggered strong protests from his supporters, who gathered outside the Subdivision office chanting slogans against the police. The crowd, part of the Grand Alliance, temporarily blocked traffic on Old GT Road and declared Shah’s victory despite the arrest. This incident marks the third time an alliance candidate has been arrested during the Bihar elections, significantly heightening the political tension in the Sasaram constituency.
