London: Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who made history in 2022 as the first British leader of Indian descent, has entered the technology sector. After stepping down in 2024 following the Conservative Party’s electoral defeat, Sunak retained his seat as a Member of Parliament. With the Labour Party now in power under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Sunak has turned his focus to technology and artificial intelligence.

Sunak has joined global IT giant Microsoft and AI startup Anthropic as a senior advisor. In this role, he will provide strategic guidance on the impact of technology on society, macroeconomic trends, and geopolitical developments. His appointment was approved by the UK Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA), with the stipulation that he must not lobby government ministers or assist these companies in securing UK government contracts for the next two years.

Bringing extensive experience from the finance and technology sectors, Sunak previously held senior positions at Goldman Sachs. Anthropic, founded in 2021 as a competitor to OpenAI, focuses on cutting-edge artificial intelligence solutions. Sunak continues to serve as an MP while advising these companies on strategic developments in the tech and AI space.
