India has successfully tested the Agni-5 ballistic missile, further strengthening its strategic defense capabilities. The missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Odisha, under the Strategic Forces Command and successfully hit all designated targets. With a range of 5,000 km, the test was conducted to ensure the readiness of the missile system. India is also developing another ballistic missile capable of striking targets up to 7,500 km.

The Agni-5 is nuclear-capable and features Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle technology, allowing it to carry multiple nuclear warheads to engage different targets simultaneously. The first MIRV test for Agni-5 was conducted on March 11, 2024, from Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. The Defence Research and Development Organisation plans further upgrades, including the addition of bunker-buster technology to enhance its effectiveness against heavily fortified targets.

Developed entirely with indigenous technology, the Agni-5 missile allows a single payload to engage multiple targets at once. In July 2025, DRDO also successfully tested a short-range ballistic missile, reflecting India’s ongoing advancements in missile development and strategic deterrence capabilities.
