New Delhi: Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren (62) passed away on Friday at a private hospital in Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment following a fall at his residence. The news was confirmed by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) national leader Kunal Sarangi. Soren suffered the accident on August 2 in his bathroom and was airlifted from Jamshedpur to Delhi. Doctors discovered a blood clot in his brain, and despite treatment by a team of senior specialists, he remained on life support for nearly 13 days before passing away on August 15.

A senior leader of the JMM, Soren was elected three times as MLA from the Ghatshila constituency. Born on January 1, 1963, in Ghorabandh village, East Singhbhum district, he began his political career as village panchayat head. In 2024, he took charge as Education Minister in Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s cabinet. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and other leaders expressed deep grief over his demise. His body is scheduled to be brought to his native village in Jamshedpur on August 16.
