Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Cyprus on Sunday, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the island nation in over two decades. He was welcomed by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. The visit is part of Modi’s three-nation tour aimed at strengthening India’s global partnerships across key sectors.

During his Cyprus leg, PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Christodoulides, focusing on deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, defence, renewable energy, and counter-terrorism. The visit is expected to enhance both strategic and cultural ties between India and Cyprus.

Following his engagements in Cyprus, the Prime Minister will travel to Canada to attend the G7 Summit in Kananaskis on June 16–17. He is participating at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This will be Modi’s sixth appearance at the G7, where he is also expected to hold meetings with global leaders and heads of international organisations on issues including innovation, technology, and energy security.

On June 18, Modi will travel to Croatia, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country. Ahead of his departure, Modi described Cyprus as a “valued partner in the Mediterranean and EU regions” and expressed hope that the visit would further bolster bilateral relations in trade and cultural exchange.
