Sukma: A senior police officer was killed and several others injured in a deadly IED blast triggered by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Konta region, a known Maoist stronghold, during ongoing anti-Maoist operations.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akash Rao was killed on the spot when the police vehicle he was travelling in was targeted with an improvised explosive device. Bastar DSP, the Sub-Inspector of Konta Police Station, and other personnel sustained serious injuries in the explosion.

Emergency and rescue teams rushed to the site and transported the injured to nearby medical facilities. According to initial reports, the Maoists appear to have orchestrated the attack as retaliation for recent encounters in which several of their top leaders were killed.

Sources indicate that ASP Akash Rao was a specific target in the blast. The area has since been cordoned off, and security has been intensified as part of follow-up operations.
