Emergency and rescue teams rushed to the site and transported the injured to nearby medical facilities. According to initial reports, the Maoists appear to have orchestrated the attack as retaliation for recent encounters in which several of their top leaders were killed.
Sources indicate that ASP Akash Rao was a specific target in the blast. The area has since been cordoned off, and security has been intensified as part of follow-up operations.
