Hyderabad: Former Chief Minister and BRS Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao was overcome with emotion on Sunday as he paid his last respects to Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath, who passed away earlier in the day due to ill health.
KCR visited Gopinath’s residence in Madhapur and grew emotional upon seeing the late leader’s mortal remains. Recalling their close association that began during their days in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), KCR was seen weeping, visibly grieving the loss of a long-time ally and friend. Their bond deepened further after Gopinath joined the BRS in 2018, winning two consecutive elections under KCR’s leadership.

The late MLA’s family also shares a close personal rapport with KCR’s family—his son and KCR’s grandson Himanshu are known to be close friends. Gopinath was serving his third term as MLA from Jubilee Hills and still had three years left in office when he passed away unexpectedly.
The Telangana government has announced that Gopinath will be accorded full state honours for his funeral. Several BRS leaders and well-wishers gathered at his residence to offer condolences and pay floral tributes.
