Hyderabad: COVID-19 is once again re-emerging in the Telugu states, with the first case of the latest wave reported in Telangana. A doctor in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, has tested positive. Andhra Pradesh has already confirmed two cases—one in Visakhapatnam and another in Kadapa—prompting health authorities to increase surveillance and issue fresh guidelines on Thursday.

The resurgence coincides with a rise in cases nationally, largely driven by the JN.1 variant. In the past week alone, nearly 300 active cases have been confirmed across India. States like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are witnessing notable spikes, and two COVID-related deaths were recently reported in Mumbai. In response, the Andhra Pradesh Health Department has issued updated COVID protocols to mitigate further spread.

Globally, the trend is concerning, with thousands of new cases emerging in major Asian cities including Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Health experts warn that the virus is regaining momentum in parts of Asia. In light of the situation, the Union Health Ministry has stepped up monitoring efforts, with officials closely tracking the spread and impact of the virus across the country.
