Peru experienced a significant seismic event on Friday, as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS), with a magnitude of 7.2. The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 8.8 kilometers from the Atiquipa district.
Following the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) initially issued an alert cautioning of potential tsunami waves reaching heights of 1 to 3 meters along certain coastal areas in Peru. However, according to the reports, the PTWC later rescinded the alert, confirming that there was no longer a tsunami threat associated with the seismic activity.
In response to the earthquake, the Peruvian Presidency issued a statement via social media, indicating that the government is actively monitoring the situation and evaluating any possible damage caused by the earthquake.
