Ranga Reddy: A devastating road accident in Chevella mandal of Ranga Reddy district claimed 18 lives and left several others critically injured early Monday morning. The accident occurred near Mirzaguda when a speeding tipper lorry collided head-on with an RTC bus belonging to the Tandur depot. At the time of the crash, the bus was carrying about 70 passengers. The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles were mangled beyond recognition, and the tipper’s gravel load fell onto the bus, trapping several passengers inside. The injured were rushed to Chevella Government Hospital for treatment.

According to preliminary reports, the tipper was traveling at an uncontrollable speed when the driver lost balance and rammed into the bus. Both the tipper and RTC bus drivers were among those killed on the spot. Rescue teams, assisted by JCBs, launched an operation to recover bodies trapped under the debris. The accident led to a massive traffic jam on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway, as vehicles were stranded for several kilometers between Chevella and Vikarabad.

Police said rescue operations were ongoing late into the evening, with fears that the death toll could rise further as more victims might still be trapped under the gravel. Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the region, with local residents and officials expressing shock over the tragic loss of lives.
