Vijayawada has been significantly impacted by heavy floods, with many areas submerged under water. However, Krishnalanka and Ranigarithota have remained unaffected by the floods, thanks to the presence of a crucial retaining wall.
The retaining wall, designed to withstand up to 12 lakh cusecs of water, has played a vital role in protecting these areas from flooding. Without this wall, Krishnalanka, along with nearby areas such as the Queen’s Garden, would have been submerged.
The 3.44-km-long retaining wall under Prakasam Barrage was constructed during the previous government’s tenure. This measure was implemented to safeguard all six divisions of the city from severe flood damage.
