Hyderabad: Vijaya Reddy, daughter of the late P. Janardhan Reddy (PJR), said she is an aspirant for the Congress ticket from Khairatabad and expressed confidence that the party will field her as its MLA candidate. Speaking to RTV, she said the party had inducted Danam Nagender into Congress as an MP candidate and would use him at the national level as an MP.
Calling Khairatabad a stronghold of PJR, Vijaya Reddy said the Congress had never moved forward in the constituency without his name. She said she and the people of the constituency are confident that PJR’s daughter will get the ticket, and that she has no doubt about it. She added that she is ready to abide by whatever decision the party takes, and that whoever the Congress fields in Khairatabad is certain to win.
Expressing hope that the party will give her a chance with the next general elections in view, she said the Congress must be strengthened in the city. She argued that the party should give her the ticket not only for the bypoll but also if it wants to grow stronger in the city in the coming elections. She noted that PJR’s son had earlier been denied a ticket on the ground that he had not worked, but said she has been working in the constituency. She also said she hopes the Jubilee Hills decision in Azharuddin’s case will be repeated in Khairatabad, and stressed that women’s leadership is very much needed.
Vijaya Reddy said that although she does not have crores of rupees, the people hold crores’ worth of affection for PJR. She asserted that no one can stop her victory, however much money others spend, and that the Congress is sure to win Khairatabad 100 percent. She said the party faces no serious competition from any other party.
She said she has never worked for the sake of positions and will go before the people whether or not she is given the opportunity. She said she served two terms in the GHMC as PJR’s daughter without any taint of corruption, and that the people of the constituency want PJR’s daughter to win. Regardless of any post, she said, she will go to the people as PJR’s daughter and resolve their problems. She also said the people will receive good governance under the leadership of Revanth Reddy.
