Hyderabad: Health authorities in Hyderabad have intensified surveillance after two individuals exhibiting symptoms consistent with a suspected Ebola virus infection were shifted from a private hospital to Gandhi Hospital, the state’s designated nodal facility for infectious diseases.

According to officials, the patients were initially admitted to Apollo Hospital and were later referred to Gandhi Hospital after doctors observed symptoms associated with Ebola. The individuals reportedly have a recent travel history to African countries, prompting authorities to activate emergency health protocols and place the city on high alert.

The patients have been admitted to a dedicated isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital, where they are being monitored by specialized medical teams. Hospital sources said both individuals are currently suffering from high fever and are receiving treatment under strict infection-control measures.

As part of the Ebola response protocol, blood and saliva samples have been collected and sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad for laboratory testing. Health officials said the test results are expected within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Authorities further stated that if the preliminary tests indicate the presence of the Ebola virus, the samples will be sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for confirmatory testing.

Officials have urged the public not to panic, emphasizing that the cases remain under investigation and that a final diagnosis will be made only after laboratory reports are received.
