Telangana-origin Konkati Poojitha has made a significant mark in local politics in London after winning the councillor election held on May 7, securing a seat from the “Royal Albert” ward in the London Borough of Newham as a candidate of The Green Party. Her victory has drawn attention among the Indian diaspora, particularly the Telugu community, as she emerged victorious in a closely contested multi-candidate race.
Originally from Usillapally village in Kalva Srirampur mandal of Peddapalli district in Telangana, Poojitha completed her higher education in biotechnology before moving to the United Kingdom for better career prospects, where she eventually settled and became active in local community affairs.
She is married to Kadaduri Srinivas, a native of Ontimamidipally village in Iinavolu mandal of Hanumakonda district, who completed his hotel management studies and is also settled in London. The couple currently resides in the UK, where Poojitha gradually built her political presence at the grassroots level.
The Royal Albert ward election in Newham witnessed intense competition, with 11 candidates from various political parties in the fray. Contesting on a The Green Party ticket, Poojitha campaigned on issues including environmental sustainability, local infrastructure, and community welfare, successfully appealing to voters in a constituency traditionally considered a stronghold of the Labour Party.
Her victory has been widely celebrated in her native villages in both Peddapalli and Hanumakonda districts, with family members and residents expressing pride over her achievement. The win is being seen as a notable milestone for the Telugu diaspora, highlighting their growing participation and representation in local governance abroad.
