Kejriwal–Vijay Parallels Shape Tamil Nadu Deadlock

Three days after the Tamil Nadu election results, uncertainty continues over government formation as TVK, led by actor Vijay, remains the single largest party with 108 seats. Despite emerging as the top party, it has not been able to secure the required majority, leaving the political situation in a state of suspense.

TVK has received support from the Congress with five MLAs, but the party still falls short of the 118-seat majority mark. Vijay has maintained that as the largest party, TVK should be invited to form the government. However, the Governor has taken a firm stand, insisting that written proof of support from 118 MLAs must be submitted before inviting him to take oath.

The stalemate has drawn comparisons with the 2013 Delhi Assembly situation, when the Aam Aadmi Party formed a minority government with external support from Congress but lasted only 49 days before resigning. Political analysts say the current Tamil Nadu scenario shows similar patterns, where a new political force struggles to secure stable numbers despite strong public support.

Support from VCK, Left parties, and the Muslim League has been indicated for TVK, but formal letters of support are yet to be submitted, keeping the situation uncertain. Meanwhile, discussions continue over possible alliance rearrangements involving AIADMK and other parties, further complicating the political landscape.

As the deadlock persists, TVK faces three possible paths—securing additional allies, exploring alternate coalition equations, or moving towards a fresh mandate if government formation fails. With negotiations ongoing, the next few days are expected to be crucial in deciding Tamil Nadu’s political future.
