State-run oil marketing companies have once again increased petrol and diesel prices across the country, adding to the financial burden on common people. Petrol prices have been hiked by Rs. 2.84 per litre, while diesel prices have gone up by Rs. 2.86 per litre. The revised fuel rates came into effect from 6 am on Saturday. The latest revision marks the fourth fuel price hike within a short period, sparking concerns over the rising cost of living and inflationary pressure on households.
Following the hike, fuel prices have reached record levels in several cities. In Hyderabad, petrol is now priced at Rs. 115.58 per litre, while diesel costs Rs. 103.74 per litre. Similarly, in Vijayawada, petrol prices have risen to Rs. 117.19 per litre and diesel to Rs. 104.88 per litre. Consumers in multiple states have expressed concern over the repeated increases in fuel prices in recent weeks.
Experts believe the latest hike could have a cascading impact on transportation and essential commodity prices. An increase in diesel rates is expected to raise operating costs for lorries, buses, vans and other commercial vehicles, potentially leading to higher transport fares and freight charges. This could further push up the prices of vegetables, fruits and other daily essentials transported from rural areas to urban markets, affecting household budgets across the country.
