The POCSO case registered against Bhagirath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has triggered a major political and legal controversy across Telangana. The Government of Telangana, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has reportedly taken the matter very seriously, with the investigation being intensified under the supervision of Kukatpally DCP Rithiraj.
In a significant development, the victim’s mother, in her statement to the police, allegedly mentioned the names of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar and former journalist Sangappa. According to her statement, the family approached the minister through Sangappa seeking justice in the case.
However, the victim’s mother alleged that instead of offering support or assurance, the Union Minister humiliated and threatened the family. The allegations have added a fresh political dimension to the already sensitive case, with the victim’s family directly accusing a senior BJP leader.
Police sources said notices could soon be issued to both Bandi Sanjay Kumar and former journalist Sangappa to record their statements as part of the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, investigators have sent Bhagirath’s mobile phone, WhatsApp chats, and other digital evidence submitted by the victim’s family to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed examination.
On the legal front, the police are preparing to move a custody petition seeking 10 days of police custody for the accused Bhagirath. The petition is likely to come up before the court tomorrow. Officials believe custodial interrogation may help uncover additional evidence and crucial details related to the case. SIT officials are also planning to take the accused to the locations mentioned in the complaint for scene reconstruction as part of the investigation.
