Senior IPS officer CV Anand has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. The state government issued the official orders through G.O.Rt.No. 553, acting on the recommendations of the UPSC selection committee. At present, he is serving as the Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department and is expected to assume charge immediately.
A 1991-batch IPS officer, CV Anand has held several key positions in his distinguished administrative career. He previously served as the Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad City from December 2021 to October 2023, where he played a crucial role in maintaining law and order in the state capital and earned recognition for his policing strategies and public engagement.
He was promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police in 2017 and later served on central deputation as Additional Director General in 2021. In August 2023, the state government elevated him to the DGP rank while he was still serving as ADG, reflecting confidence in his leadership capabilities and service record.
During the last general elections, CV Anand was temporarily removed from the Hyderabad Police Commissioner post in compliance with Election Commission directives. However, his latest appointment as the state’s top police official marks a significant reinstatement to a key leadership role in Telangana’s law enforcement structure.
Beyond his policing career, CV Anand has a notable sporting background. He represented India in the Under-19 cricket team during the 1986 England tour and also played for Hyderabad in age-group cricket. Additionally, he excelled in athletics at the National Police Academy, winning eight gold medals, and continues to actively participate in tennis tournaments, maintaining a strong focus on fitness and discipline.
