A major controversy unfolded in the Rajya Sabha when bundles of currency notes were discovered near a Congress MP’s seat, igniting tensions between ruling and opposition members. The BJP has called for a detailed investigation into the matter.
During the ongoing winter session of Parliament, Rajya Sabha convened on Friday. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed the issue, stating, “Following the postponement of Thursday’s session, security officials conducted routine checks in the chamber. They discovered bundles of currency notes near seat number 222, allocated to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Telangana. The bundles contained Rs. 500 and Rs. 100 notes. There remains uncertainty about whether these notes are genuine or counterfeit. I have ordered an investigation into this matter. It is not my responsibility to bring this issue before the House.”

Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge strongly opposed Dhankhar’s statement. While he did not object to an inquiry, he expressed discontent over naming a member before a thorough investigation had been conducted, emphasizing the need for due diligence.
In response, Kiran Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, dismissed Kharge’s remarks. He stated, “Naming someone is not a concern. The Chairman would clarify which seat had the money and who occupies it. Bringing currency bundles into the House is inappropriate and warrants a serious investigation.”
Adding to the political discourse, BJP National President J.P. Nadda condemned the incident, stating that it undermines the integrity of the Rajya Sabha. Nadda demanded accountability and action against those responsible, calling on the Congress to address the situation with transparency and responsibility.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and calls for strict measures to ensure parliamentary integrity are growing louder among BJP leaders and supporters.
