Before Shah, the role was held by the late Jagmohan Dalmiya, political leader Sharad Pawar, lawyer Shashank Manohar, and industrialist N. Srinivasan.

After taking over the position, Jay Shah shared his thoughts on the opportunity to lead the ICC. Expressing his gratitude for the support from ICC directors and board members, he emphasized the significance of the role. Shah also acknowledged the upcoming inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, a milestone event for the sport.

He reaffirmed his commitment to using this opportunity to elevate cricket globally and ensure its continued growth and popularity. Shah also highlighted the role of the LA28 Olympics in bringing cricket to a wider international audience, adding that this would provide a fresh boost for the sport.

Shah’s Career Path in Cricket Administration

Jay Shah began his career in cricket administration in 2009 as a member of the Executive Board of the Central Board of Cricket in Ahmedabad. He later served as the Joint Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) in September 2013.

In 2015, Shah became a member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Finance and Marketing Committees. He stepped down from his position as Joint Secretary of GCA in September 2019 and was elected as the youngest-ever BCCI Secretary among the five office bearers. In 2022, under his leadership, BCCI broke records by securing a significant media rights deal for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
