Ongole: Former CID ASP Vijaypal is under investigation in connection with the alleged custodial torture of YSRCP MP Raghurama Krishna Raju during the previous YSRCP government. Vijaypal appeared for questioning today at the office of the Prakasam District SP, Damodar, in Ongole.
The questioning began at 11 AM and continued until around 9 PM, after which Vijaypal was arrested. The case relates to accusations by Raghurama Krishna Raju, who claims he was subjected to third-degree torture during his arrest and interrogation in 2021. Raghurama had filed a complaint in July 2023, alleging that the torture led to an attempt on his life while in custody.
Vijaypal had earlier filed for anticipatory bail in the Supreme Court, but his petition was dismissed. Following a detailed inquiry, SP Damodar officially confirmed Vijaypal’s arrest. Authorities have also prepared a remand report, and plans are in place to transfer him to Guntur by tomorrow morning.
In 2021, Raghurama Krishna Raju was accused by CID officials of making derogatory remarks about then-Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. He was forcibly taken from his Hyderabad residence to the CID regional office in Guntur. In his complaint filed in July, Raghurama alleged that he was subjected to physical torture and threats during his time in custody.
