The coalition government has delivered good news to the people of Andhra Pradesh, announcing the launch of the Mahashakti scheme as per their promise. The scheme is set to be inaugurated on October 31, coinciding with Diwali. As part of this initiative, three gas cylinders will be provided free of cost annually. Currently, officials are working on implementing the scheme.

Over Rs 3,640 Crore Expected in Costs

There are currently 1.55 crore gas connections across the state, of which 1.47 crore belong to white ration card holders. Providing these beneficiaries with three free gas cylinders per year is estimated to cost over Rs ₹3,640 crore.

Cost of a Cylinder at Rs 837

The planning for the free gas cylinder scheme is reportedly nearing finalization. Officials are calculating the number of beneficiaries in each district and the number of cylinders required. With each gas cylinder priced at Rs 837, it is projected that families will save Rs 2,511 per year.

Both the central and state governments have already provided gas connections under various schemes like Ujjwala and Deepam. If the new scheme is extended to the 75 lakh beneficiaries under these schemes, the cost would be Rs 1,763 crore. A committee of ministers is expected to meet soon to make recommendations to the Chief Minister. This news has brought great joy to the people of Andhra Pradesh.
