BRS MLC Kavitha encountered another legal setback as the Supreme Court deferred the hearing of her bail petition. The petition, initially scheduled for review, has been postponed to August 20. This development follows the Delhi High Court’s decision on July 1, where her bail request was rejected in cases filed by the CBI and ED, linked to the Delhi Liquor Scam.

The High Court dismissed Kavitha’s plea, citing concerns raised by the investigating agencies that she might destroy evidence and attempt to influence witnesses. Kavitha, the sole female among the 50 accused in the case, argued that she has the responsibility of caring for her children as a mother, thereby requesting bail. However, the court did not take this into consideration.

Kavitha has now appealed to the Supreme Court, which has scheduled the next hearing for August 20. It is noteworthy that Kavitha was arrested by the ED on March 15 and has remained in Tihar Jail since then.

The recent grant of bail to former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia by the Supreme Court had sparked optimism among BRS leaders that Kavitha might also secure bail. However, the postponement of her hearing has raised concerns among party members.
