Former Minister and MLA Harish Rao has raised alarm over a series of rape incidents reported in Telangana, criticizing the state government for its perceived lack of responsibility towards women’s safety. Harish Rao expressed his dismay at the recent spate of sexual assaults, emphasizing the urgency of addressing these issues.

“It is distressing that four rape incidents have occurred in the state within a single day. This is a situation that brings shame and reflects poorly on our governance,” Harish Rao stated. He highlighted that it has been less than 48 hours since discussions in the Assembly about women’s safety and the increasing number of rapes. Harish Rao questioned the efficacy of legislative actions in light of these ongoing issues, noting that Telangana, which is meant to be a safe haven for women, is now witnessing a troubling trend of such incidents.

The reported incidents include:

  • A software engineer was gang-raped within the Vanasthalipuram Police Station limits.
  • An RTC bus driver assaulted a passenger in the OUPS limits.
  • A differently-abled woman was raped in Saligooraram, Nalgonda district.
  • A driver sexually assaulted a woman traveling in a bus from Nirmal to Prakasam.

Harish Rao called for immediate action, demanding that the government ensure the victims receive appropriate support, that perpetrators are swiftly identified and severely punished, and that heightened measures are taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
