KATHMANDU: Heavy rains have again lashed Nepal, with rising floodwaters and landslides killing at least 21 people, officials said. The downpours, which began on Thursday, have left residents in several regions struggling to cope.
The fresh deluge follows last month’s flash floods, which have so far claimed nearly 1,453 lives and left more than 5,000 people missing, according to authorities. Landslides in hilly areas and overflowing rivers have damaged homes and roads, while low-lying areas have been submerged, deepening public anxiety. Last month’s flash floods caused immense destruction, with a large number of people killed or reported missing.
Rescue operations for victims of the earlier disaster were still under way when the new rains struck, and the situation on the ground has deteriorated further.
In a separate incident, a severe avalanche hit the Himlung Himal mountain area in Manang district. Two people were killed when snow collapsed, and 10 others remain missing. Battered by floodwaters on one side and avalanches on the other, people across Nepal are reeling.

The Nepali government has deployed relief teams, which are working to rescue victims and move them to safer locations. However, flood damage to transport links has severely disrupted rescue operations.
Officials have warned that if the intensity of the rains does not ease, the toll could rise further.
