Internal factionalism within the Congress party in the LB Nagar constituency escalated sharply on Monday, culminating in mutual attacks and widespread unrest at the residence of Telangana Youth Congress state president Shivacharan Reddy in Mansoorabad.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from a controversy over a flex banner. Allegations surfaced that Shivacharan Reddy had used harsh language against a man named Suresh Yadav, questioning why leader Jakkidi Prabhakar Reddy’s photo was not included on a flex banner related to Pochaboyina Ishwaramma Yadav, a member of the Yadagirigutta temple trust board. Reports on social media further alleged that Shivacharan Reddy made inappropriate remarks about Ishwaramma Yadav herself, sparking outrage among BC and Yadav community association leaders and her supporters.
Enraged by the alleged remarks, Ishwaramma Yadav’s supporters, along with Yadav community leaders, laid siege to Shivacharan Reddy’s residence in LB Nagar’s Mansoorabad area in large numbers, attacking the house and smashing window glass. Shivacharan Reddy’s supporters and Youth Congress workers, upon noticing the assault, attempted to intervene and stop the mob, leading to a fierce scuffle between the two groups that quickly spiraled out of control.
Both sides resorted to indiscriminate attacks using sticks and stones, turning the area into a virtual battlefield and causing widespread panic among local residents. Police, upon receiving information, rushed to the scene and resorted to a lathi charge to bring the situation under control, dispersing the agitators and restoring calm to the area.
Police have since deployed heavily across LB Nagar and the surrounding Mansoorabad areas, maintaining continuous surveillance of the situation. Investigators are collecting evidence, including CCTV footage, related to the clash.
A case has been registered against those involved in the attack, and further investigation is underway.
