New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell has foiled a major terror conspiracy allegedly aimed at carrying out coordinated attacks across key Indian cities, including Delhi and Mumbai. In a significant counter-terror operation conducted on Saturday, authorities arrested nine suspected terrorists believed to have links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and the underworld network of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
The arrests were made following extensive surveillance and intelligence-based operations conducted by the Special Cell. According to police officials, the accused include individuals from Delhi, Mumbai, and Punjab, along with a few foreign nationals. Authorities described the operation as a major breakthrough in preventing a potential large-scale terror attack.
Critical Infrastructure Allegedly Targeted
Investigators said the terror module had allegedly identified several high-value targets across the country. These reportedly included nuclear facilities, airports, railway stations, power plants, government establishments, security personnel, and crowded public locations.
Preliminary findings suggest that the group was planning simultaneous attacks on multiple strategic sites with the objective of causing widespread disruption and creating panic on a national scale.
Weapons, Ammunition Recovered
During the operation, security agencies seized a substantial quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials from the suspects. Forensic and technical examinations of the recovered items are currently underway as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials said the arrests have helped uncover a broader network, and efforts are underway to identify additional operatives and facilitators connected to the alleged conspiracy.
Probe Points to Alleged ISI Involvement
According to senior police officials, the suspects were allegedly in regular contact with handlers linked to Pakistan’s ISI. Investigators believe the module received operational guidance and training intended to facilitate attacks within India.
The investigation has also revealed preliminary indications that the accused may have relied on networks associated with Dawood Ibrahim to arrange logistical support, including the movement of funds and explosive materials.
Intelligence Alerts Led to Heightened Security
The operation comes weeks after central intelligence agencies warned of a possible terror threat to the national capital. Security alerts had highlighted the risk of vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) attacks, suicide bombings, and armed assaults targeting sensitive locations.
Following the alerts, security agencies intensified surveillance and strengthened deployments at critical installations across Delhi and other major cities. Officials believe the timely action by the Delhi Police Special Cell has averted a potentially significant security threat.
The arrested suspects are currently being interrogated, and further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the alleged terror network and its domestic and international connections.
