The NEET UG 2026 examination has been cancelled nationwide following serious allegations of a question paper leak, marking a major development in India’s medical entrance examination system. The test, conducted on May 3 across the country, has been scrapped by the central government amid concerns over its fairness and transparency.
The decision follows reports of a suspected “guess paper” leak in Rajasthan, which triggered widespread concern among students and parents. Preliminary inputs reviewed by the Ministry of Education and investigative agencies indicated possible irregularities in the conduct of the examination, prompting a detailed review of the process.
Taking the matter seriously, the government has handed over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Officials said the probe aims to identify the individuals and networks responsible for the alleged leak. Authorities have also assured strict legal action against those found guilty of compromising the integrity of the national-level exam.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET UG examination, has announced that a fresh exam will be conducted soon. The revised schedule and dates will be published on the official website in due course. The agency clarified that candidates will not be required to re-register or pay any additional fee for appearing in the re-exam.
Officials further stated that new admit cards will be issued using the details of the previously issued hall tickets. Students will be allowed to appear directly for the rescheduled examination. While the move aims to ensure fairness and restore credibility, it has caused widespread disappointment among lakhs of aspirants awaiting medical admissions, with authorities urging candidates to regularly check official updates.
