Commercial LPG prices have already witnessed a steep hike of ₹993, and fresh reports now indicate that further fuel price increases may be on the horizon. According to sources, petrol and diesel prices could be revised upward by ₹4 to ₹5 per litre, while domestic LPG cylinder rates may also see an increase of around ₹50. An official announcement from the Central Government is expected within a week.
The sharp revision in commercial LPG rates on Friday pushed the price of a 19 kg cylinder in Hyderabad to ₹3,315. The sudden increase has raised concerns among transport operators, small businesses, and households, with expectations of a broader inflationary impact if fuel prices are also revised.
Meanwhile, global crude oil prices have surged significantly, with international rates touching around $125 per barrel. Oil marketing companies are reportedly facing daily losses of nearly ₹2,000 crore due to high procurement costs. Industry experts caution that the ongoing crude oil volatility may continue for an extended period, adding further pressure on domestic fuel pricing.
Sources indicate that fuel price adjustments may be considered in line with international market trends to offset the financial burden on oil companies. There are also reports suggesting that price revisions could be implemented following the completion of recent Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, where commercial LPG prices have already been increased.
Amid these developments, speculation is growing over a possible upward revision in petrol and diesel rates in the coming weeks. While no official confirmation has been issued, government sources have not ruled out future adjustments, stating that global crude fluctuations could necessitate periodic revisions in domestic fuel prices.
