The war between the United States and Israel against Iran has now entered its 28th day, leaving all three countries reeling from significant human and economic losses. The month-long conflict has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions, with Iran bearing the heaviest toll. Reports indicate nearly 1,900 deaths in Iran, including 175 school students, and around 3.2 million people rendered homeless. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has provided updates on the scale and impact of the ongoing military operations.

Iran has suffered extensive destruction, with over 10,000 targets hit by U.S. forces, including underground defense facilities, industries, and key infrastructure. Around 150 Iranian naval warships have been destroyed, and over 16,000 homes have been demolished. Millions have fled their homes amid internet blackouts and a collapsing economy caused by currency devaluation. Missile factories, military bases, oil depots, and energy sites have also been targeted, with experts estimating Iran’s financial losses between $150–$200 billion (₹14–19 lakh crore).

U.S. military bases in the Gulf have been attacked in retaliation, resulting in 13 U.S. military deaths and over 300 injuries. The United States reportedly spent $11 billion during the first six days of the war, with cumulative losses from ongoing operations estimated at $18–$40 billion (₹1.7–3.8 lakh crore). Continued conflict is expected to further strain U.S. finances.

Iranian strikes on Israel have so far killed approximately 28 people, including four soldiers, and injured more than 5,000. Over 4,000 civilians have sought shelter in safer areas. Israel’s economic losses over the past month are estimated at $28–$32 billion (₹2.6–3 lakh crore). Attacks on U.S. and energy infrastructure in the Gulf, including Abu Dhabi, have killed two foreign nationals, while clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon have claimed 1,100 lives and displaced thousands. Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for 20% of global oil, has disrupted global oil supplies, pushing Brent crude above $100 per barrel.

Despite ongoing peace negotiations, a clear end to the conflict remains uncertain. The U.S. temporarily paused attacks on Iran for five days, extending the pause by another 10 days, but Iran has demanded full sovereignty over Hormuz and compensation for war damages. Israel’s Defense Minister has stated that strikes will continue regardless of diplomatic efforts. As the conflict persists, the international community continues to monitor developments closely, with the humanitarian and economic toll mounting daily.
