The campaign period for the Telangana Municipal Elections 2026 has officially ended. In recent days, streets and neighborhoods across the state—excluding Greater Hyderabad—were abuzz with party flags, loudspeakers, and door-to-door campaigning by candidates. With the conclusion of campaigns, the Election Commission has finalized all arrangements for smooth polling.
The elections cover 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations, with voting set for 414 ward divisions and 2,582 municipal wards. A total of 12,993 candidates, ranging from senior political leaders to young entrants, are contesting to serve their constituencies, making this a high-stakes political exercise.
According to the Election Commission, 52,43,023 voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including 26.8 lakh female voters and 25.62 lakh male voters. Polling will take place on February 11 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Authorities have imposed strict security measures, including the closure of liquor shops and restrictions on outsiders entering towns during polling. Officials and political leaders have urged voters to make informed decisions, prioritizing development over inducements.
Vote counting is scheduled for February 13, with results to be announced the same day. Newly elected members will take oath on February 16, followed by indirect elections for mayors and chairpersons later that afternoon. The elections are seen as a matter of prestige for major parties in the state, including the Congress, BRS, and BJP, and are expected to shape local governance for the coming term.
