New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by political strategist Prashant Kihor seeking to annul the Bihar Assembly election results held in November last year, in which his Jan Suraj Party failed to secure a single seat despite contesting all 238 constituencies.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi criticised the plea, observing that voters had already rejected the party and that the judicial process should not be used for publicity. The Chief Justice remarked that once people deliver their verdict, courts cannot be approached for political relief, adding that the alleged welfare scheme should have been challenged earlier.

The Jan Suraj Party had alleged that ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the government distributed money to voters under welfare schemes, including ₹10,000 to women in families. The petition, filed under Article 32, claimed that funds were released to nearly 36 lakh women, terming it an illegal inducement.

While dismissing the PIL, the Supreme Court directed the petitioner to approach the Bihar High Court.
