Hyderabad: In a major development in the phone tapping case, BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) wrote a six-page letter to the Jubilee Hills ACP, strongly objecting to the manner in which police served notices while reaffirming his willingness to cooperate with the probe in Crime No. 243/2024. KCR expressed serious displeasure over officials pasting a notice on the wall of his Nandi Nagar residence, calling it unconstitutional and illegal. He pointed out that the law mandates questioning citizens above 65 years of age at their place of residence and clarified that he currently lives in Erravalli, where the inquiry should be conducted. He also stated that the Jubilee Hills ACP has no jurisdiction to question him and termed the notice served to him unlawful, saying it harmed his dignity.

Accusing the police of violating Supreme Court guidelines on issuing notices, KCR said addresses mentioned in election affidavits have no relevance to Section 160 notices and stressed that parliamentary law requires questioning at a person’s present residence. Citing the Satender Kumar Antil vs CBI judgment, he alleged double standards by police, particularly in the issuance of notices to former minister Harish Rao, and warned that such actions could amount to contempt of court. He also referred to the AP High Court’s VD Murthy case to underline his legal objections.

Despite these concerns, KCR said that as a responsible citizen and opposition leader, he would cooperate with the investigation and would be available for questioning on February 1 at 3 PM at his Nandi Nagar residence. While stating that he could legally ignore the improperly served notices, he said he chose not to do so and requested police to send all future notices to his Erravalli address. He concluded by expressing anguish over what he described as an improper approach by authorities, saying their actions had caused personal humiliation.
