New Delhi: The national capital was rattled by gunfire over the past two days as two shooting incidents left residents and police on high alert. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attacks were linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his network, revealing a new and more aggressive pattern in the gang’s operations.
Shootings in East and West Delhi
The first incident occurred around midnight on Monday in West Vinod Nagar, East Delhi, where two helmeted bikers fired shots outside the residence of property dealer Jitendra Gupta before fleeing. No casualties were reported, but the gang reportedly followed up with a ransom demand of Rs 5 crore via phone and audio messages. The second incident took place on Tuesday night in West Vihar, where unidentified assailants fired outside a gym, causing panic among nearby residents. Social media posts subsequently claimed responsibility by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Expansion to Canada
Following the Delhi incidents, another shooting was reported in Brampton, Canada, targeting the residence of Jasveer Dhesi. A social media post by the gang claimed responsibility, with Goldie Dhillon, identifying himself as a gang member, warning that anyone supporting rival groups would face similar attacks. Video footage of the Brampton shooting was also shared online.
Gang’s Growing Global Reach
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claims to operate across multiple countries, including India and Canada. A spokesperson associated with gang member Hashim Baba stated that while their operations were previously focused on robbery, the gang now intends to target drug mafias directly, accusing traffickers of destroying future generations. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation amid growing concerns over the gang’s international reach and violent activities.
