Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Shivaji appeared before the Telangana State Women’s Commission on Monday following notices issued to him over controversial remarks on actresses’ attire made during the pre-release event of the film Dandora. The Commission had taken suo motu cognisance of the issue and summoned the actor to seek an explanation. Shivaji attended the inquiry at Buddha Bhavan, met Commission Chairperson Nerella Sharada, and submitted his clarification, which was formally recorded by the panel. He had earlier tendered an apology on social media regarding the comments.
According to sources, Shivaji informed the Commission that the remarks were made unintentionally and assured that such statements would not be repeated. He also withdrew the comments that women found objectionable and expressed regret over any hurt caused. The Commission questioned him on behalf of those who felt offended, and Shivaji responded to all queries during the proceedings.
Speaking to the media after the inquiry, Shivaji alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched against him and claimed that even people close to him were involved. He maintained that he had no intention of hurting anyone and said he had realised the need to refrain from offering unsolicited advice on sensitive issues. Emphasising respect for institutions and the film industry, Shivaji said he was willing to appear before the Commission again if required and urged that the matter be brought to a close.
