U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine could spiral into a third world war if not halted immediately. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated that nearly 25,000 lives had been lost in the past month, with the majority of the casualties being soldiers, while others perished due to bombings. “I wish this bloodshed would stop. The numbers are staggering, and this conflict needs to end now,” he said, adding that such an escalation could potentially lead to a global catastrophe.
Trump also expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the peace talks, which have been ongoing for four years. According to White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt, the President is not satisfied with mere promises from Russian and Ukrainian officials but is demanding real results. “The President is tired of empty words; he wants action,” Levitt stated. Trump has also emphasized his readiness to take decisive action if necessary, while U.S. diplomats continue their efforts to mediate the conflict through European channels.
Regarding the peace process, Trump revealed that his administration has been active in pushing a 28-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed dissatisfaction with this plan, proposing an alternative 20-point plan. Zelenskyy made it clear that Ukraine would not agree to cede the Donbas region to Russia but was open to discussing broader plans for reconstruction and economic development in partnership with the United States.
Amid the ongoing tension, Trump has shown his commitment to playing a central role in brokering peace. He remains engaged with European leaders, and U.S. diplomats, including Ambassador Steve Vitkoff, are continuing their discussions with both Russia and Ukraine to facilitate a resolution. As the conflict persists, the international community remains hopeful that diplomatic efforts can bring an end to the devastating war.
