A major development has taken place in the Maharashtra local body elections, with several municipal council and municipal panchayat polls in Pune district being postponed. The decision was taken after court directives were issued beyond the deadline set by the State Election Commission, officials confirmed on Sunday night.

According to authorities, elections in at least 20 municipal councils and municipal panchayats have been deferred due to non-compliance with election guidelines and ongoing court cases. Polls were originally scheduled to be held on December 2 across 246 municipal councils and 42 municipal panchayats in the state.

With the postponement, elections will not take place in 20 civic bodies, affecting districts including Pune, Amravati and Aurangabad. The remaining civic bodies will go to polls as planned.

Revised election dates are expected to be announced once legal and administrative formalities are completed. Officials stated that preparations will resume after directives from the State Election Commission.
