Visakhapatnam’s iconic glass skywalk on Kailasagiri officially opened to the public today, offering tourists a unique and thrilling experience. Built at a cost of Rs 7 crore, the 55-meter-long cantilevered bridge stands 862 feet above sea level, providing panoramic views of the Bay of Bengal, the Eastern Ghats, and the city. Constructed using imported German laminated glass, the bridge can accommodate 40 visitors at a time and is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, including winds of up to 250 km/h and a total load of 500 tonnes.

The inauguration was led by Visakhapatnam MP Bharat and Mayor P. Srinivas Rao, with MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu and VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal in attendance. Pranav Gopal also announced that the Trishul Project on Kailasagiri will be unveiled soon. The skywalk, which surpasses Kerala’s previous 40-meter-long glass bridge, is the longest of its kind in India.

Visitors on the bridge experience a sense of floating in the air, with elevated hills, valleys below, and the distant sea providing a panoramic backdrop. The bridge is illuminated with tricolour lighting at night, enhancing its appeal as a major tourist attraction.

For safety reasons, only 40 visitors are allowed on the bridge at a time, although it has the capacity to hold 100 people. The project aims to provide tourists with a safe yet exhilarating experience, cementing Kailasagiri as a key destination in Vizag’s tourism landscape.
