Karimnagar BJP MP and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay has once again courted controversy with his provocative remarks, calling the Jubilee Hills by-election a “war between Hindus and Muslims.” Addressing a gathering, he claimed the contest is between those who wear tilak and those who don’t, between people with sacred threads (waist thread)  and those without. Questioning whether the 80% Hindu population or the 20% Muslim population would prevail, he alleged that the BJP stands for Hindus while the Congress supports Muslims. Sanjay further accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of plotting to turn Telangana into an Islamic state, remarks that have drawn sharp criticism.

Referring to Revanth Reddy wearing a Muslim cap, Sanjay said that if he ever had to wear one for votes, he would rather “cut off his head.” Asserting his Hindu identity, he stated that he would never act in a way that disrespects other religions by performing namaz for political gain.

The Union Minister also reacted strongly to the demolition of 46 Hindu temples in Godavarikhani during a road expansion project, demanding that mosques obstructing the road be removed in the same manner. Warning of “serious consequences” if authorities fail to act, Sanjay said he would personally visit Godavarikhani after the by-election to ensure action is taken. He added that if the temples are not reconstructed, he would initiate steps to demolish all mosques blocking road development.
