Konaseema: Cyclone Montha, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, made landfall between Kakinada and Machilipatnam, near Antarvedi Palem, on Tuesday evening. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the complete landfall process is expected to take three to four hours. Wind speeds are projected to reach 90 to 100 kmph during landfall, with coastal areas already experiencing intense gusts.
The cyclone has brought heavy winds and rainfall to several coastal districts. The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA) has warned residents of potential flooding and damage in low-lying areas. APDMA Managing Director V. Prakhar Jain stated that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, and Palnadu districts on Wednesday.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in Kakinada, Konaseema, East and West Godavari, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, and Anantapur districts. Officials have urged people to stay indoors, avoid coastal zones, and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
