The Aurangabad Railway Station in Maharashtra has officially been renamed Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Railway Station, South Central Railway announced. The renaming honors Chhatrapati Sambhaji, son of the Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This follows the Maharashtra government’s decision nearly three years ago to change the city’s name from Aurangabad, originally named after Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Public demand for renaming the railway station had been ongoing for several years.

The state government issued a gazette notification regarding the change on October 15, and South Central Railway has now completed the official process. The station, which falls under the Nanded Division, has been assigned the new station code CPSN (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar). All railway tickets, timetables, signboards, and other official records will reflect the updated name and code going forward.

Constructed in 1900 during the reign of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, the station is located on the Kachiguda–Manmad section. The area, now known as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, has also gained prominence as a tourist hub due to its proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora Caves. Railway authorities have urged passengers to take note of the new station name when planning their journeys.
