A strong earthquake jolted Japan on Saturday, registering 6.0 on the Richter scale. The tremor struck at 12:00 AM on October 5, near the eastern coast of Honshu, the country’s largest island.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, highlighting the potential for significant ground shaking in the surrounding regions.
Authorities and local agencies have been monitoring the affected areas for any damage or casualties, while residents reported feeling the tremor across several nearby prefectures. The event underscores Japan’s ongoing vulnerability to seismic activity due to its position along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
