Canada: Several South Indian films, including Pawan Kalyan’s OG and Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, have had their screenings canceled in Canadian theaters following a series of attacks on a theater in Ontario. Theater operators cited safety concerns for staff and audiences as the primary reason for suspending the shows.
The incidents reportedly occurred over the past week, with two masked individuals targeting a theater on September 25, causing a minor explosion at the entrance using a liquid substance. On October 2, another masked person fired shots at the same theater. Thankfully, no casualties were reported, but the attacks raised concerns about screenings of South Indian films being specifically targeted.
In response, theaters across Ontario, including Oakville’s Film.CA Cinemas and Richmond Hill’s York Cinemas, have removed Indian films from their online booking platforms and canceled scheduled shows, offering refunds to ticket holders. Similar measures are reportedly under discussion in theaters across Greater Toronto, Alberta, Quebec, Manitoba, and British Columbia. Authorities suspect a possible link to Khalistani elements, though no official police statements have been issued. Residents have been urged to provide any relevant information to law enforcement.
