Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer Shivadhar Reddy has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. A 1994-batch IPS officer, he is currently serving as the state’s Intelligence Chief. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy formally handed over his appointment order.
Born in Hyderabad and hailing from Thulekalan (Peddathundla), Ibrahimpatnam Mandal, Ranga Reddy district, Shivadhar Reddy completed his education in Hyderabad, including an LL.B. from Osmania University, and briefly practiced law before joining the Indian Police Service in 1994.
Throughout his career, Shivadhar Reddy has held key positions, including ASP in Anakapalli, Narsipatnam, and Chintapalli; Greyhound Squadron Commander; and SP in Bellampalli, Adilabad, Nalgonda, Srikakulam, Nellore, and Guntur districts. He played a pivotal role in countering Maoist activities as district SP and DIG SIB.
Between 2014 and 2016, he served as the first Intelligence Chief of Telangana and is credited with planning the Nayeem encounter operation in 2016. He also has international peacekeeping experience, having served with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.
Shivadhar Reddy has overseen several high-profile cases and operations, including managing law and order during the 2007 Makka Masjid bombings as Hyderabad South Zone DCP. As Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner, he launched the Arrive Alive road safety campaign. He has also served as Additional Director and Director of ACB, as well as IG and Additional DGP in the Personal Wing, gaining extensive experience in road safety and administrative leadership.
He was reappointed as Intelligence Chief in 2023 and promoted to DGP in August 2024. Over his career, Shivadhar Reddy has been awarded the Gallantry Medal, Police Medal, President’s Medal, and United Nations Medal for his distinguished service in law enforcement.
