Kolkata: Cricket legend Sourav Ganguly, popularly known as “Dada,” has been unanimously re-elected as President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), returning to the position six years after completing his previous term from 2015 to 2019. A former Team India batsman and captain, Ganguly has held several key roles since retiring, including commentator, BCCI official, and CAB president, contributing significantly to Indian cricket. His re-election took place during CAB’s 94th Annual General Meeting on Monday.

Following his election, Ganguly outlined his priorities, emphasizing the development of Eden Gardens. He announced plans to increase the stadium’s seating capacity to 100,000 and to ensure it is ready to host important matches during next year’s T20 World Cup. Ganguly stressed that enhancing the stadium’s facilities and preparing it for high-profile events would be a key focus during his tenure.

Among the immediate fixtures under his supervision is the India vs South Africa Test match, scheduled to begin on November 14, marking the first Test at Eden Gardens in six years. The last Test held at the venue was the India vs Bangladesh Pink Ball Day/Night Test in November 2019, when Ganguly served as BCCI president. Speaking to the media, he said, “Both are top-class teams, and it will be a very exciting Test match. I will coordinate with the BCCI to ensure all arrangements are in place,” expressing confidence that the venue and preparations would provide an excellent experience for both players and fans.
