A 32-year-old Telangana native, Mohammad Nizamuddin, was shot dead by police in Santa Clara, California, on September 3. Nizamuddin, a software engineer from Mahbubnagar’s Ramayya Bawli, had moved to the United States in 2016 for higher studies and later settled in Santa Clara for work. He lived with a few friends in a shared apartment. According to local authorities, the shooting occurred after a minor dispute with his roommate escalated, and Nizamuddin allegedly threatened officers with a knife, prompting them to open fire. He was declared dead at the scene, and his body was taken to a local hospital.

Nizamuddin’s family, who only learned of the incident two weeks later, have challenged the police account and sought assistance from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to repatriate his body to India. The Indian government, through the Embassy in Washington, D.C., is reportedly coordinating with US authorities for repatriation. The family, supported by MBT leader Anjad Ulla Khan, is requesting timely government intervention to conduct his final rites in India. The incident has raised concern and distress within the Telugu community in the United States.
