New Delhi: Praja Shanti Party president K.A. Paul has claimed that it was his personal intervention that led to the postponement of the execution of Nimisha Priya, a Kerala nurse facing the death penalty in Yemen. While the Indian government continues diplomatic negotiations to secure her release, Paul stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration had failed to resolve the issue for the past eight years.

Addressing the media, Paul said he met with Yemen’s leaders and offered prayers, which he believes played a crucial role in halting the execution. “The death sentence was stayed due to divine intervention. I’m working to ensure it is revoked permanently. With the support of public prayers, Nimisha will return home safely,” he said.

Nimisha Priya, convicted in a murder case in Yemen, had her family offer blood money—reportedly one million US dollars—to the victim’s family in an attempt to avoid capital punishment. However, there has been no official response from the victim’s family so far.

Paul questioned whether the central government would provide the blood money or if the responsibility would fall on him. He urged authorities to ensure the amount is arranged within a week. He also announced plans to meet Yemen’s leaders again soon to continue his efforts. The case continues to attract nationwide attention, with both government and private actors seeking a resolution that would spare Nimisha Priya’s life and facilitate her safe return to India.
