Jaipur: In a shocking case of impersonation, a woman identified as Mona alias Mooli Devi has been arrested for fraudulently undergoing two years of training as a Sub-Inspector at the Rajasthan Police Academy. Her story has gone viral across social media, raising serious questions about verification procedures in recruitment.

Mona Bugalia, who hails from Nagaur district and is the daughter of a truck driver, had appeared for the SI exam in 2021 but failed to qualify. She then allegedly forged documents under the name Mooli Devi and gained entry into the academy, posing as a sports quota candidate. For two years, she trained alongside legitimate recruits without being detected.

Officials revealed that Mona used a VIP gate designated for families of senior officers to avoid scrutiny, never entering through the academy’s main gate. In 2023, some fellow trainees became suspicious of her repeated use of the VIP entry, and their concerns led to an internal probe that ultimately exposed the fraud.

After remaining absconding for nearly two years, Mona was arrested on July 5 in Rajasthan’s Sikar district. Authorities seized three police uniforms, fake identification cards, and examination-related documents from her possession.

The incident has sparked criticism of academy administrators for allowing her to bypass basic background verification protocols and remain undetected for so long. An official investigation is underway to determine if any staff were complicit in the breach.
