Accra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday addressed the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, calling it a moment of great honour and pride. Speaking during his two-day visit to the African nation, Modi said, “It is a privilege to speak before this august House. I consider it an honour to be in Ghana, a country that champions the spirit of democracy.”

Highlighting India’s democratic values, he added, “As the representative of the world’s largest democracy, I bring with me the goodwill and best wishes of 1.4 billion Indians.”

During the official ceremony in Accra, Ghana conferred its highest civilian award — the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana — on Prime Minister Modi. The award was presented by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama. Accepting the honour, Modi said he was receiving it on behalf of the 1.4 billion citizens of India.
