Tel Aviv/Gaza: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Sunday released a video allegedly showing a Hamas tunnel beneath the European Hospital compound in Khan Younis, Gaza. The footage, shared on social media, was presented as evidence that the hospital site was being used by Hamas operatives as a command and control center.
According to the IDF, the tunnel contained weapons, surveillance equipment, and control rooms. The military said the operation to uncover the site was conducted under the direction of Israel’s Intelligence Directorate, with support from the Golan Brigade, Yahalom Unit, and special forces. The IDF accused Hamas of exploiting civilian infrastructure for military purposes, putting innocent lives at risk.

The IDF further stated that this incident is similar to a 2023 operation in which a Hamas tunnel was allegedly discovered beneath the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. At the time, Israel said such tunnels were used to orchestrate attacks, but acknowledged that efforts to dismantle them often led to unintended civilian casualties.
Palestinian authorities have strongly denied Israel’s claims, rejecting the assertion that hospitals are being used for militant activity. The ongoing conflict, which escalated following Hamas’s October 2023 surprise attacks, has resulted in over 53,000 reported deaths, according to health officials in Gaza.
